Definition:
A postposition is an adposition that occurs after its complement.

In the following sentence, the words and oga, ni, are postpositions:
- John ga Mary ni hon o yatta
- John NOMINATIVE Mary DATIVE book ACCUSATIVE gave
- ‘John gave Mary a book.’
